Do you Need God to be the Provider for you? It can feel embarrassing, almost shameful to pray for Financial Blessings. I fought and screamed about it for years before letting go! I mean, God has big things to do and I should be able to take care of myself right?!?!?!
No, those are Lies from the enemy. God loves you. He has taken on the role of your Adopted Father (Aba, Daddy) who loves you and longs to provide for you as Jehovah Jireh.
We Have to Fight Back against the enemy who whispers those lies. For A look at Why we should fight and How we should fight click these phrases!
Matthew 7:7-11 …If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!
What I’m Not talking about with God My Provider
This is not about a Prosperity Gospel. God never promised we would be rich and famous. Take a good hard look in the scripture. I’ve never found an Apostle who died a millionaire dripping with everything his heart desired. It’s just not in there.
This does not mean we can be lazy, do nothing for ourselves and God will pour out money from heaven. Again, the scripture is full of warning about laziness, slothfulness and a man not doing his part to provide for himself and his family. That’s not what this is about.
So what am I talking about today?
God will often push me outside my comfort zone to grow my faith and trust in Him as My Provider
Have you ever told God no? Maybe you just rationalized His voice away (maybe indigestion or nerves). I remember the day I Flat out disobeyed His calling – laughing in His face – “No God I’m not doing that”. I would not recommend it btw… I clearly heard the call to give up my career and be a Stay-At-Home-Mom. I heard it and explained to God that it was impossible.
Matthew 19:26 “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Impossible is not a God word
All I ever wanted as a girl was to be a mom but, I had heard for years that it was impossible. I built walls around the hurt. Set up Idols of a new Identity in my career, convenience and financial stability.
I tried to go about life as usual. God made me miserable in my disobedience! Enter our 2nd Little Blessing. Again – His pursuit of me was relentless.
But Human Reason said No
- We Could not live on One Income.
- I would be bored at home all day with kids! (Oh I was in for a reality check!)
Why did I really say No?
Fear: When you come from poverty you assume God doesn’t really provide
We grew up in ratty hand me downs, eating government cheese and alternated utilities each month to make ends meet.
I fear poverty.
Frugal living had become another Idol erected to keep from the hurt- I was sure God didn’t love me enough to provide.
But the Bible says:
- God is our Provider (2 Corinthians 9:8, Philippians 4:19)
- He cares for the things we care about (1 Peter 5:6-7)
- We can ask Him for anything in His Name (John 14:13)
- Also we are not to fear! (2 Timothy 1:7)
How could I get past this fear? Bigger Faith. Do you know How God gives you bigger faith? He gives you situations that require Faith to Grow!
All the bills were paid – but they shouldn’t have been
Have you ever seen God miraculously provide? The month and the money didn’t match but everything was paid! The first time that happened was awe inspiring. But when it kept happening I cried a lot – so overwhelmed by the Love of God my Provider.
God Will Provide For Us
I found so much freedom in having no control over our Finances (there was still fear at times). The math didn’t make sense, nothing was secure or stable, but we were right where God wanted us. And God Showed Off.
There are still days I am tempted to worry about our Finances but then I remember:
My Blessing is That God is My Provider
Over the past 6 years, God has done so many amazing things!
- Approved us to buy a house (Still in shock about that)
- Paid Bills anonymously
- Given us a Van (Free)
- Clothed our girls
- Given us Homeschool curriculum and supplies
- Kept us in the house through a 3-year hard season
- Replaced broken furniture and appliances
- Provided Christmas for our girls several years when we would have had nothing (Thank you to every angel He used!)
- Food boxes would be delivered when we were short
- Bill companies would send rebates for overpayment – (Just the time we needed that $$$$)
- Someone sponsored us to Go through Financial Peace University – (Now we are debt-free!!!!!!!!!!)
