Have you experienced the love of God? That love is the driving force behind witnessing; a deep need in all of us to share the Gospel.
His love is a deep abiding love that never changes or leaves. It transforms you and leads you to hope and joy. God’s love is like no other. As you abide in Christ, the love of God will spill over into every area of your life.

As much as I wish this was a redundant question, it is not. There are many in our world today who teach that we do not need to use words to share the Gospel anymore. They say, “share the gospel, and when necessary use words.” This has led many to believe their life alone is enough to lead others to Christ.
Still others, like me, live in fear of the rejection that comes when sharing the Gospel. I wish it were true that learning to abide in Christ always leads to sharing the Gospel!
While we have focused on learning how to abide in Christ it has felt like waves of grace showering over my dry spirit. There have been countless benefits to learning to be still and know God more. Unfortunately, I still struggle to witness to unbelievers, thought I know it should flow from this grace.
I’ve heard preachers say it should naturally lead me to share the Gospel. In the beginning, it did, but now there is a hesitance to witness to others. Can you relate?
I know who the safe people are in my life to share about all the great things God has done and I am open about Him with them. But I don’t often venture to share God’s love with the lost.
There are many Bible verses to share the gospel, but this is the strongest I know.
“Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God” (2 Timothy 1:8-11 NASB)
Fear
We’ve looked at 13 promises to help us overcome fear but I still have fear about this. Do you?
- Fear of rejection.
- Fear of confrontation.
- Even a fear that I am inadequate or unqualified to be an effective witness.
- Fear that my lack of witnessing will be the cause of some going to Hell…
“If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. (John 15:1-11 NASB)
But the fear of God should override those other fears. Right?

Calling
We are called to abide in Christ by telling others about Him. Witnessing is the call of every single Christian according to the very last words of Jesus.
“And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20 NASB)
In fact, Jesus went a step further than telling us to witness to our friends, family, and neighbors. He said to share the gospel with all nations! What a high calling that is!!!!!!
Love
Why should we share the Gospel? God loved us enough to save us.
If we love others the way Jesus loves us we would want everyone to know about Him. Why? Because God is love… Because the Love of God will so fill you up that it spills over out of your life into the lives of others.
We witness (share the Gospel), not as a religious requirement but as a desire to share the relationship we are living in. Share on X“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 NASB)

Justice
But God is also just.
I am all about focusing on the love of God. God so loved us that He sent His only Son to pay the price of our sins to make a way for us to spend eternity with Him.
But that is not the only reason God sent His Only Son.
“For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him.” (John 3:17 NASB)
God is just and cannot abide with us with sin
The justice of God demands a price to be paid to cover the sins of men. Jesus paid that price but we must choose Him. If you do not choose God, He will not force you to love Him.
There is a very real place, Hell, where people will spend eternity apart from God if they have not chosen Him.

Hell
How many people in your life will spend eternity in Hell?
There are dear friends and family in my life who have made very real choices to reject God. Still, others believe they don’t have to choose but by not choosing God they are still choosing Hell.
Do you believe that?
“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” (2 Corinthians 5:20 NASB)
Compassion
But God is love. Yes, God is just and can not spend eternity surrounded by sin, but God is also love. It is God’s love that made a way for salvation, a way to bring us near to Himself. We who are abiding in the love of God know it well.
Sharing the Gospel with the lost should flow from a heart filled with God’s love. When God’s love fills my heart I can do nothing but talk about it.

Sharing God’s love is not the same as sharing about Hell and God’s justice if that is what frightens you. We witness (share the Gospel) not as a religious requirement but as a desire to share the relationship we are living in.
You tell others about your husband and children, the ones you are abiding with. Telling others about God is an indicator of how much you are abiding in Christ or abiding in God’s love.
Even when you are abiding in God’s love, witnessing is still hard. How can you get past the initial struggle to share the Gospel?
When thinking through the question, “How do you share the gospel with someone?” we see 5 marks of a good witness for Christ.
- Do it scared
- Pray for boldness
- Live transparently
- Your walk must match your talk
- Keep an eternal perspective
- Know the Scripture
Do It Scared.
When learning how to share the gospel with unbelievers, the first rule is that you don’t wait for confidence. Share the Gospel even while you are scared silly!
Don’t just share what God is doing in your life with your safe friends and family, share it with everyone you talk to. Sharing the Gospel all the time helps you gain confidence!
Let your conversation always be flavored with how much God loves you and all the things God has done for you to everyone you encounter.
“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” (Mark 16:15 NASB)
Pray for Boldness
There are countless ways to share the Gospel. Countless. And while it is important to be prepared, it is more important to be prayed up. Pray God will make you bold enough to shine in front of everyone in your life.
“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16 NASB)
Live Transparently
The key to learning how to share the gospel with a stranger is to be always sharing the Gospel with all those in your life.
Witnessing starts at home but extends to everyone in your life. Share openly about the good, the bad, and the blah. Don’t hide the hard parts but let others see what’s broken and hard so they see when God fixes it!
When you abide in the love of God it spills over into every area of your life. When you live in a way that hides nothing, people see when God makes changes. People see His love shine out of you and they feel safe sharing the real part of their life with you.
God is love but God is just and the world needs His love today. By living transparently you show the lost world they don’t need to be perfect to come to God because you are not perfect.

Your Walk Must Match Your Talk
I once took a class about how to share the gospel in 5 minutes. The key points were spot on, but I was not living for Christ in every area of my life. When I tried to witness to a co-worker, she nailed me.
It is critical that you live your life so that your words match your lifestyle! If you witness but the person knows you are a hot mess, they have no reason to listen to the hope you offer.
Everyone around you is watching how you live.
- How do you react when you are wronged?
- What do you say to your husband in hard times?
- How do you behave when out and about?
- Does your life match your words?
- Does your life look different from the lost around you?
“Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (Ephesians 5:15-17 NASB)
This is not about perfection, but about staying in the process with God. Admit your mistakes and grow. Do it out loud so the world sees God being glorified as you grow!

Keep An Eternal Perspective
Going back to the first point about fear keeping us from sharing the Gospel, your perspective matters. We must live in a way that we care more about what God thinks of us than what others think about us.
One day you will stand before God at the final judgment and give an account of your life. He will care very much about how you answered the call He placed on your life.
Will the people living life with you have come to want God because they saw Him moving in your life?
Live your life so that the Gospel of Christ shines out…
Your words match your life…
People want to know God because they see Him moving in your life.
Lastly, please rest assured that you don’t really need creative ways to share the gospel. Of course, you can learn them if that helps ease your nerves, but the most important thing is to know your own story and the Scriptures that tell the Gospel clearly.
If you want to share the gospel verse by verse, I suggest going through the Romans Road:
“As it is written, ‘There is none righteous, no, not one.’” (Romans 3:10, KJV)
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23, KJV)
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23, KJV)
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8, KJV)
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9, KJV)
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13, KJV)

Dear Heavenly Father, Oh Ancient of Days,
You are love but You are also just. Help me not to be so focused on growing in my own life that I forget there is a lost and dying world that needs You.
Is my life shining Your love to those around me? Can others see Jesus in me?
Forgive me for all the times I’ve been too afraid to speak of Your love with boldness. I confess the fear of confrontation and rejection that has kept my mouth shut.
Change me, Lord. Fill me with boldness to speak of Your love. People would come to You if they knew how much You loved them.
Forgive me for wearing a mask, pretending perfection, and being a hypocrite to those around me. My life is broken in so many places. The only great thing worth boasting about in me is You.
Teach me to live my life out loud without a mask so others see You and You alone are glorified.
Amen.
