There is Hope After Divorce for the Christian Woman
My heart bubbles over with prayer for every person going through a divorce because I know the pain of divorce so personally.
Did you know this part of my story is filled with:
- Learning how to begin praying for a mate after divorce.
- That is one of the signs God taught me to see if I had really forgiven my ex-husband.
- Relearning how to do life after divorce.
- It is a hard thing to learn how to trust and love again after divorce.
- Learning the importance of trusting God after divorce.
- Yep, I stopped trusting Him for a time.
- Burying myself in Bible study for divorce recovery.
- I’ll share those resources at the end of this article.
- Continuing in prayer to heal from divorce well after I’ve remarried.
- Because being a Christian woman – a divorced Christian woman still hurts.
- Learning how to stay pure after divorce
- and failing at it.
- Then finding hope after divorce
It’s not often I can share how God fixed my mess but I am thankful for Rachel Marie Lee inviting me to be part of her Stories of Hope Series – keep up with that here.

Joy came after divorce when my prayer life began to be a conversation with God, rather than a list of wishes whispered to an unpredictable genie.
I am a Christian Woman and I am divorced
I have been a Christian Woman for over Thirty years and I am divorced.
Divorce isn’t a part of my salvation story nor am I innocent of all wrong. It took two of us to ruin that marriage and it has taken years for me to say that.
Divorce is a tag or title that doesn’t go away (yep Christian Divorce is a title I wear). No matter how many years it’s been since the divorce I am still a divorced woman. The pain and scarring of that are permanent and deep.

Healing After Divorce
How do I heal myself after divorce?
One of my favorite Bible Verses about Hope after divorce though it is also in my list of Marriage Scriptures now.
“The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, Because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, For in God the Lord, we have an everlasting Rock.” (Isaiah 26:3-4 NASB)

When Godly People Do Ungodly Things by Beth Moore
Whew, this book is loaded with so much hope and healing. Godly people do ungodly things every day. It is a harsh reality that hurts deeply. What do you do when your Christian Marriage ends in a nasty divorce? How do you continue to press into God through the hard parts of life? This book helped me learn all those things and so much more!
Healing is a Choice by Stephen Arterburn
Yes, healing really is a choice. We can choose to wallow in misery and adopt a bitter, resentful personality OR we can choose to heal, forgive and move into a joy-filled life after divorce and other sufferings. Healing is a choice – but God is the one who can get us to a place of being healed and whole after divorce. How do I get over divorce and move on? This book taught me there is hope after divorce!
Boundaries by Henry Cloud and John Townsend
Setting boundaries doesn’t feel like a very Christian thing to do, but Jesus set boundaries. The Bible is filled with examples of healthy boundaries, personal boundaries, and church boundaries. This book digs deep into scripture to help teach us how to apply realistic boundaries to our lives and prevent needless pain. It was crucial to my healing after divorce and beginning my Second Marriage on better footing.
When God doesn’t Fix It by Laura Story
This is a true story of God’s love and Redemption through unlikely circumstances. As hard is it is to think about or accept, God doesn’t always fix the broken pieces of our lives in the way we ask. Don’t misunderstand me, God always answers, but His answers are just not always understandable. This book really helped me gain a new perspective on what it can look like for a Christian to suffer and still have her faith intact.

Divorce is already hard as is, your tips will definitely help some people
I pray they will Paula.
Faith must bring a lot of comfort during divorce, it is so hard. My parents divorced in my teens and it hit our family hard. I’m so glad you’re sharing your wisdom here for others.
Faith is the strength that keeps me going. I pray everyone get’s to know my Jesus who comforts us and never leaves us alone Helen.
I’m not a Christian but I am the child of divorce so I know how hard it can be on everyone involved.
It is so hard. Thanks for stopping by SuperMom.
Thank you for sharing your story – I know this will help so many people in the same situation get thru it a little easier.
Thanks Cammeo, for your encouraging comment.
Thank you so much for sharing your story, Tiffany. I don’t think I realized you were divorced. Divorce is part of my story as well. It breaks my heart when Christians look down on others who are divorced, especially when I’m standing there and they don’t realize it’s part of who I am. But the worst is when they attack others they don’t know online. Christian sisters they have never met because they think their theology gives them the right to treat others like garbage. It hurts my heart and I just want to reach through the screen and hug the women they are smearing and tell them God loves them more than they will ever know. Even if not everyone realizes it.
I agree Heather. What people need is grace, truth and hope in Christ. So glad to know you and others who extend God’s hands to hurting women around the globe.
Please pray for me. Been separated on and off with my spouse for the past year. We are both Christians. It’s been a rough situation for both of us but I wanted us to work things out. He wants to start filing within the next couple of weeks. I prayed for so long for God to do the impossible but at the end of the day, I’m not God and I can’t choose for another person or fix years of hurt. I still believe God is capable. More just worried about what life will be like on the other side of this and how it will affect my future.
So true, Joelle, we can’t make them fight for the marriage. I am praying over you today that God will restore your hope and bring healing and forgiveness as you walk this path.
