Honestly, the Proverbs 31 Woman has set the bar so high that I could never measure up – and so I’d rather ignore her. But God would not let me leave her out of our series on effective prayer strategies!

It seems an appropriate passage to use to kick off our series of praying over our own lives. Not that I believe I will ever measure up to that godly woman’s example, but I see God molding me and changing me into it more and more every day – when I ask Him.

As we go through this passage together I will highlight some phrases. We will use them as prayer points and to focus our time because the passage is long.
Thankfully, the author broke the passage into sections we can clearly see by the Proverbs 31 woman’s characteristics.
- Trustworthy wife
- Diligent worker
- Strong and unafraid
- Trust and fear the Lord
A Trustworthy Wife: a Godly Wife (a Proverbs 31 Wife)
The first characteristic we see of the Proverbs 31 wife is that she is a godly wife whose husband can trust her. Notice it says her husband’s heart trusts her. I want to be that wife!
“An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, And he will have no lack of gain. (A Proverbs 31 Wife) She does him good and not evil All the days of her life. She looks for wool and flax And works with her hands in delight. and She is like merchant ships; She brings her food from afar. and She rises also while it is still night And gives food to her household And portions to her maidens.“

A Diligent Worker: a Virtuous Woman (a Proverbs 31 Woman)
This is also a woman who works diligently. A diligent worker is a virtuous woman which defines a Proverbs 31 woman!
“(The Proverbs 31 Woman) She considers a field and buys it; From her earnings she plants a vineyard. She girds herself with strength And makes her arms strong. and She senses that her gain is good; Her lamp does not go out at night; She stretches out her hands to the distaff, And her hands grasp the spindle.“
A Godly Woman (A Proverbs 31 Woman) Is Strong and Not Fearful
This woman is strong and unafraid of the life God has led her into. That is a godly woman!

This is a woman, a Proverbs 31 woman who trusts God with her whole life. The fear of the Lord is a character trait she possesses.
“Strength and dignity are her clothing, And she smiles at the future. She opens her mouth in wisdom, And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. and She looks well to the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and bless her; Her husband also, and he praises her, saying: “Many daughters have done nobly, But you excel them all.“
“Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her the product of her hands, And let her works praise her in the gates.“
A Proverbs 31 Prayer
There are four prayer points from Proverbs 31 that we can easily turn into our Proverbs 31 prayer.
- Be a godly wife (A Proverbs 31 Wife) that my husband can trust.
- A virtuous woman (A Proverbs 31 Woman) is a diligent worker.
- A Christian woman is strong and not fearful.
- She has the fear of the Lord and trusts Him with her whole life.
Just reading that shorter list makes me feel overwhelmed. It feels like could never measure up to or be like this woman. Can you relate to that feeling?
Instead of allowing the pressure to overwhelm us, lets choose to pay this prayer until we see the Lord change our lives.

Lord Help Me Be a Godly Wife (a Proverbs 31 Wife) That My Husband Can Trust
Father,
please give me clear guidance and direction in my life. I long to be a Proverbs 31 wife that is excellent. As a Christian wife, a godly wife, I pray you would help me accept who my husband is in this moment and teach me to leave changing him up to You.
I know he longs to be loved, accepted, and respected for the person he is, rather than nagged and “helped” to become the man I wish he were.
Give me the desire to pray this Proverbs 31 Prayer often and help me to trust You more God!

Teach Me To Be A Virtuous Woman (a Proverbs 31 Woman) Who Is a Diligent Worker
Thank You for showing that a virtuous woman (a Proverbs 31 Woman) can be a working woman. Whether I am blessed to stay at home – and work diligently to care for my home and children – or whether I am called to work outside of the home I am thankful to know You see my value, Father!
Teach me to delight in the work of my hands – even the tedious work like laundry and bookkeeping. They are all important somehow and I long to glorify you in every area of my life.
Give me knowledge and discernment to take care of our finances. Show me how to stretch what we have and be a good steward of those financial resources you have blessed us with.
Remind Me That A Godly Woman Is Strong and Not Fearful
Please, God, help me to care for my body to endure the calling You have given me.
Teach me to ignore the voice of the enemy that would discourage me from pursuing Your Calling in my life.
Help me always step out in faith and show dignity as I walk humbly with You and help the poor, the orphans, and the widows.
Regardless of our situations, I pray for our family to have a reputation that is above reproach – and that my husband would be well respected.
A Proverbs 31 Woman has the Fear of the Lord
Give me wisdom Father, keep me firmly planted in the truth of Your Word so that I am able to teach with kindness on my tongue. Help those things season my speech when life is hard, my children are driving me crazy and my husband is not meeting my expectations. Each day helps me to look well to my household and keep laziness far from me.
One day help me see some of the harvests from this life; my children walking as disciples of yours, my husband loving me well, and this ministry prospering. But more than anything I long to one day hear your precious voice say, “My daughter you have done nobly and you excel them all.”
Thank you in advance for changing me, molding me, teaching me to fear You Lord, and above else… never giving up on me. For being an again kind of God and for Your mercies that are new each morning!
