Prayer Points for You Leading Up to Easter: Free Prayer Guide: Easter Prayer Points With Scriptures
What is a good Bible verse for Easter?
Ephesians 6 is a great place to begin. Always begin intercessory prayer by covering your life in prayer for God’s presence. The enemy will attack you hard and you need to be covered.
This is meant to be an Easter prayer guide to help us stay focused while praying specifically. Feel free to use what makes sense and not use what doesn't fit your needs. Share on XPut on The Whole Armor of God First!
Pray that we would Put on The Whole Armor of God
Dear God, we specifically pray that the staff and the congregation would be prepared for battle by putting “on the whole armor of God so that we are able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.”
Remind us that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
- So it is important to “take up the full armor of God so that we will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.”
- “Gird our loins with truth,” by keeping us in Your word.
- Teach us to “put on the breastplate of righteousness,” by keeping our mind fixed on you and doing what is right rather than what is easy.
- Keep our “feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;” always being ready to give an answer for our Faith.
- Remind us to “take up the shield of faith” rather than trying to fight in our own strength so that we “will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”
- Thank you for our “Helmet of salvation”.
Again, keep us in your word so that the “sword of the Spirit” is always sharp and ready for battle. We give you all the honor and glory for this in Jesus’ Name. Amen. (Ephesians 6:11-17)
Pray to Paralyze Satan
Pray to Paralyze Satan from blinding the lost.
Lord, your word says that the good news is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. Please paralyze him in his work against our congregation this Easter. (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)
Pray for Soft/Repentant Hearts
Pray for a soft/repentant heart to be granted to the lost and the saved.
Lord God, your word says “The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will. Please, Dear Heavenly Father, grant this body repentance and lead them to the knowledge of Your truth. (2 Timothy 2:24-26)
Pray for Open Doors
Pray for An open door for the Gospel.
Lord we are praying that You will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ, to all those around us who are lost and far from You. Open up conversations that lead to You. Give us the opportunity to invite our loved ones this Easter. (Colossians 4:3)
Pray for Boldness
Pray to be bold and courageous to share the gospel.
Lord, I pray You would keep me on the alert with all perseverance for the saints. And I pray for myself and those in our congregation that utterance may be given to us in the opening of our mouths, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, that in proclaiming it we may speak boldly, as we ought to speak. (Ephesians 6:18-20)
Pray for Workers
Do we know what prayers are said during Easter? Prayers for those serving the Lord are important!
Lord, Your word tells of a time that Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom. When He saw the people, He felt compassion for them. Lord, there are many in our city also who are distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. Your commission to the disciples applies here as well. “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few”. Lord of the harvest, we beseech You to send out workers into Your harvest. (Matthew 9: 35-38)
Prayer Points for Pastors Personal Life
What is the prophetic prayer for Easter?
We love our pastors, but they live with a target on their backs. The enemy works hard to attack them and so we need to cover them in prayer! That is why I’ve added them to this Easter prayer guide.
We need to cover their personal lives and their ministry lives as both are instrumental in spreading the gospel!
Love The Lord
Pray that they would love the Lord with all their heart, mind, soul and strength.
Lord, Let the words of their mouth and the meditation of their heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, our Rock, and our Redeemer.
(Psalm 19:14; 1 Corinthians 11:1; Hebrews 5:4) Help them to Honor Christ in heart, words, and actions. (Matthew 22:36-40)
Abide in Christ
Pray that they abide in Christ and be devoted to prayer, relying on God
Holy Spirit I ask you to teach them to be devoted to prayer with the same fervency that the Apostles were devoted. (Acts 1:14; Rom 12:12; Colossians 4:2)
Preach the Whole Truth
Pray that they rightly divide the Word of Truth and communicate the gospel with clarity. This is more than just reciting the Apostles’ creed, it’s about standing on the Holy Scriptures.
Almighty God, remind them to be trustworthy stewards of the word. (1 Corinthians 4:2) I pray they would constantly thank God for receiving the word and that the congregation would accept it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in those who believe. (1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Timothy 2:15; 2 Timothy 4:2)
Lord, remind our staff that when the enemy speaks lies, he is speaking from his native tongue and we ought never to imitate him. (John 8:44)
Father, teach them to not believe every spirit, but instead to test the spirits and see if they are from God. (1 John 4:1)
Help them not to be lead astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. (2 Corinthians 11:3)
Have Support
Pray that God provides prayer, encouragement, and resources to under-gird their work spiritually and financially.
Lord Jesus, I am praying that they will be able to say “But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am amply supplied, having received from the congregation what was sent,” That our offering will be like a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.” And let them remember that our “God will supply all their needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:18-19)
Be Spirit-Filled
Pray that they serve in the great power of God’s Spirit and not in the flesh. These are prayers… resurrection prayers… that are only possible for those who are filled with the Spirit of God as a result of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Holy Spirit, Remind them, in the busyness of this season, to abide in Christ. Your word says “he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” But if they will abide in You, You promise that “Your words abide in them,” they can “ask whatever they wish, and it will be done for them.” Because You say, “My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.” (John 15:4-10; Galatians 5:16)
Guard Purity
Pray that they walk in purity and be protected from the deceptive schemes of Satan.
Please Lord, protect them and show them that they should be on guard to “not give the devil an opportunity.” (Ephesians 4:27; 2 Thessalonians 3:3; 1 Timothy 3:7; Exodus 33:14; 3 John 2)
Father, the enemy is quick to bring up our forgiven past, accusing us and tearing down our minds.
Please keep in our Staff’s hearts and minds the account given to John “Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night. And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.” Satan is defeated and we can walk in victory over his schemes. (Revelation 12:10-11)
Protect Families
Pray that God would bless them with strong marriages and families amid the hard work of ministry.
Oh Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, please strengthen their marriages. Show them how to do Marriage God’s way rather than the culture’s way. Let wives be subject to their husbands and that husbands would love their wives as Christ loved the church. (Ephesians 5:22-6:4) And mold them into godly parents so they would be parents who teach and inspire their little children to obey and honor them. (1 Timothy 3:4-5)
Prayer Points for Pastors Leadership
We can never take for granted the impact our pastors have on our lives as they lead us to the Lord. It is critical that we cover their leadership and spiritual growth in prayer. So far we have prayed for their personal lives in this Easter prayer guide.
Now we transition to praying over their leadership through Easter Prayer Points With Scriptures.
Protection
Pray that they would be blessed, protected, and prosperous in their leadership role
That “in all respects, they may prosper and be in good health, just as their soul prospers.” (3 John 2)
Lead like Jesus
Pray that they would lead with honor, respect, wisdom, compassion & godliness. So that we “may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.” (1 Timothy 2:2)
Be Shepherds
Pray that they would watch over, protect, lead, and serve those in their care.
Please teach our congregation would obey them as our leaders and submit to them because “They keep watch over our souls as those who will give an account.” (Hebrews 13:17)
Submit to Authority
Pray that they would submit to the authority established by God and His word daily.
Lord as this world gets more and more wicked it gets harder and harder to obey the authorities You have established. I pray for wisdom in our leaders to be able to “Submit themselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right.” Help us to remember the body of the Lord Jesus, broken for our sins.
You have said that this is Your will for us that “by doing right we may silence the ignorance of foolish men.” You further tell us to “Act as free men and do not use our freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God. Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.” Help us all to do this, to walk according to Your way, in newness of life, in the sacrifice of Jesus, the Author of Life. (1 Peter 2:13-17)
Hate Evil
Pray that they would hate evil, pride, injustice and turn away from Satan’s lies and schemes. (1 Peter 5:8)
Work Diligently but Wisely
Pray that they would continue to be hard workers who faithfully fulfill their duties.
Help our staff to be like the faithful sensible steward “whom his master will put in charge of his servants, to give them their rations at the proper time. Blessed is that servant whom his master finds so doing when he comes.” (Luke 12:42-44)
Father, it is so easy to get distracted by all the work to be done in ministry and all the busyness of our daily lives and forget that this is all about You.
Help our staff to remember Jesus’ words to Martha “you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:38-42; Galatians 1:10; Psalm 55:2)
Set Godly Examples
Pray that they would use good judgment, pursue justice, love mercy and walk humbly with God. (Micah 6:8)
Be a godly example in their roles and responsibilities, to be like Joshua who said: “as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
Strive for Unity
Lord, please remind our staff to “all agree and let that there be no divisions among them, but that they are made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment.”
Help them to live in an understanding way with one another where they disagree and put the health of the body and the furthering of the Kingdom before their own preferences and desires. (1 Corinthians 1:10-13)
God, I pray that there would be neither divisions nor factions among our body, but that in humility we would be united in Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:17-19)
Your word says that “If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.” And we deeply desire unity in our church staff so that our church will stand strong in the face of this wicked world. (Mark 3:25)
Defensive Prayer Points for the Congregations
What is a powerful Easter prayer?
The enemy uses four tactics to keep us from receiving the Word -Distraction, Deception, Derision, and Division.
Let us use Easter prayer points with Scriptures to pray powerfully, and defensively against them before the attacks in this Easter prayer guide.
Distraction
Lord teach us to “give attention to Your words and to incline our ears to Your sayings. Help us to not let them depart from our sight, and keep them in the midst of our hearts. Remind us that they are life to those who find them and health to all the Church. Teach us to watch over our hearts with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. Remind us to put away from us a deceitful mouth and to put devious speech far from us.
Teach our eyes to look directly ahead and let our gaze be fixed straight in front of us. Help us to watch the path of our feet so that all our ways will be established. We will not turn to the right nor to the left but will turn our feet from the distractions of the evil one. (Proverbs 4:20-27; Luke 10:38-42; Psalm 55:2-3; Revelation 3:20; Matthew 14:28-31)
Deception
Lord, we know that when the enemy speaks lies, he is speaking from his native tongue, but these lost souls know no other voice. Speak over him; open their ears and soften their hearts to hear Your voice calling them. (John 8:44; 2 Corinthians 11:3; Galatians 6:7)
Derision
Lord Jesus, the enemy often makes us feel like our past is too dark, dirty and unforgivable. He accuses us and convinces us that You could never want us. Your word says “the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night.” I claim that victory for the lost in our congregation. You have won and they need only claim “the blood of the Lamb” to live in that victory. (Revelation 12:10-11)
Division
Lord, there are some in our body “who cause dissensions and hindrances contrary to the teaching” of Your word. Please change their hearts and help their intentions to be clear to all around them that we would turn away from them and not give place to division in the body. Please keep them from discouraging or turning away any of the lost You are bringing onto our campus. (Romans 16:17; 1 Corinthians 1:10-13)
Offensive Prayer Points for the Congregations
While we know there are certain areas the enemy will always attack, we also know we need to cover people completely. These are areas that need prayer consistently if we are to be armed. Not just in an Easter prayer guide or in an Easter prayer message, but weekly as we gather to grow in faith! That’s why I believe we all need to take up the charge to become prayer warriors. Read more about that here!
Walk through these Easter prayer points with Scriptures over your congregation today.
Spiritual Growth
Pray that the congregation would prioritize Spiritual growth in their daily lives.
Lord, we pray that You would convict and revive the hearts of those who are stale in their faith.
Please help us to have perseverance and endurance for Christ’s namesake, and to not grow weary. And that in all of our striving, please help us not to leave our first love. (Revelation 2:3-4)
Lord, just like Paul “I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, our congregations’ minds are easily led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. Keep our minds stayed on You and give us a new passion for You. (2 Corinthians 11:3)
Surrendered Lives
Pray that people would fully surrender their lives to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
Lord, your word says that there are many who believe they are saved who are not. You said that “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’ Unveil blind eyes to the reality of their salvation. Send a revival through our congregation by saving those who are lost and not aware of it. (Matthew 7:21-23)
Authentic Faith
Pray that Christians would have authentic faith rather than comfortable Christianity or religion
If any in our congregation are playing a church game and have never really made a commitment to You, I pray they will confess Jesus’ name with their mouth, believe in their heart that God has raised You from the dead, and be saved. I pray that in their hearts they will believe and that the result will be righteousness. (Romans 10:9-10)
Lord, I pray that we would all be challenged to “present our bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to You God, which is our spiritual service of worship.” Teach us how to “not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds, so that we may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:1-2)
Obey God in All Things
Pray that the congregation will grow in Christ and obey the Word of God as a disciple been when it’s hard.
Lord, Your word says that “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine.” Help us want to do this so that we “will know the truth, and the truth will make us free.” (John 8:31-32)
Walk in Love
Pray that the congregation Walks in love, kindness, and favor with the lost and the believers around them.
Father, please continue to teach us how to “Conduct ourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Let our speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that we will know how we should respond to each person.” (Colossians 4:5-6)
Walk In Their Calling
Pray that the congregation will know the your living hope, riches, and power of their inheritance in Christ and walk the way He’s called them.
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of the Father, of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might. Let them walk in the power of the resurrection, in the gift of salvation. (Ephesians 1:18-19)
Be Devoted to Prayer
Pray for the congregation to be devoted to prayer in secret and corporately in the church as we work through this Easter prayer guide, these Easter prayer points with Scriptures.
Father, build into us the discipline to “go into our inner room, close your door and pray to our Father who is in secret, and our Father who sees what is done in secret will reward us.” (Matthew 6:6)
Lord, remind us of Jesus’ words, “that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.” (Matthew 18:19-20)
Repent of Sin
Pray for people to repent of daily sins and walk in holiness before God.
God, please help us to “come out from their midst and be separate,” and “do not touch what is unclean”. (2 Corinthians 6:17)
Father, remind us to “be careful how we walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of our time, because the days are evil.” Teach us how to “not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (Ephesians 5:15-18)
Live in Freedom from Sin
Pray the congregation will break free from any bondage, stronghold, or addiction through the power given in the resurrection of the Lord Jesus.
Lord, remind us that “we have been buried with Christ through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.” And that “knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin.
We praise You Lord for because “having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now we can present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification. (Romans 6:1-19)
Lord, we thank You that “the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)
Demonstrate Hope and Peace
Pray that the congregation will live with Christ as their hope and the true source of peace and happiness and demonstrate that to the lost world around us.
Thank You, Lord, that we can drink of the water that You have given and that we shall never thirst. We praise You that the water that You give us will become in us a well of water springing up to eternal life.” (John 4:10-14)
Pray the Congregation will share the gospel and faithfully make disciples of others in their lives.
Lord impress on our hearts the weight of your commission to us that to “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
To Be Found Faithful
Pray the congregation will be found faithful when they stand before God.
Father, let us long to hear You say ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’ (Matthew 25:21)
I thank Christ Jesus our Lord for your promises. Please strengthen us and consider us faithful or please teach us to be faithful so that You can put us into service. (1 Timothy 1:12)
Prayer Points for Easter for the Lost to be saved
We know that the lost will join us for Easter services on Easter Sunday for many reasons. Whatever the reasons that they join us, we want to cover them with prayer.
The Bible promises that the Word of God will not return void so this is an opportunity for seeds to be planted and souls to be saved! That is reason enough for us all to use this Easter prayer guide, these Easter prayer points with Scriptures to cover our lost friends and family in prayer today.
Disconnect
Pray that God will disconnect them from influences that are pulling them away from Christ.
Lord protect the lost from the influence of “religious Pharisees” who establish laws and rules to earn salvation. Please allow them to take in the Easter Story of Jesus’ resurrection and let it produce new birth in Jesus name. (John 7:47-52)
Expose the Lies
Pray that God will expose the lies they’ve believed that have kept them from Christ.
Father, show the lost that the enemy has kept them blindly stumbling through the darkness. Open their eyes to see Your truth. (2 Corinthians 4:4)
Bind Satan
Pray that God will show your great mercy, bind Satan and turn them from darkness to light so they may receive forgiveness of sins.
Lord Your word says that “the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Thank You for that merciful promise. (Luke 19:10)
Father please “open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.’” Let this year be about more than an Easter Bunny, but about the power of God through Jesus name at work in their lives. (Acts 26:18)
Convict of Sin
Pray that God will convict them of sin, His coming judgment and their need for a Savior.
Lord, Your word says that “when You come, You will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment”. So many are not ready. Please open their eyes to the truth of the coming judgment and the love of the Son of God. (John 16:8-9)
Lord, you said that “the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing.” Please reveal it to the Lost who will be in our congregation. (1 Corinthians 1:18)
Deliverance From Evil
Pray that God will deliver them from evil, the devil’s traps and schemes, and any strongholds.
Lord, we come to You broken and full of sin. Thank You for giving us weapons to take back what the enemy has claimed. We praise You that “the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)
Salvation
Pray that God will save them, change their hearts to His better way and fill them with His Spirit.
God, I pray you will “remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh”. I thank You for the promise to “give them a new heart and put a new spirit within them,” that we are a new creation in Jesus’ name! (Ezekiel 36:26)
Lord, I thank you that we do not need to try to fill ourselves with the pleasures the world offers, but that we can be “filled with the Spirit”. (Ephesians 5:18)
New Life
Pray that God will teach them to abide in Christ and live according to His will, to have new beginnings in Jesus’ Name.
Father, You have said that if we abide in You we will bear much fruit in our Christian life. I pray that each person who comes to know You this weekend will dig into Your word deeply. Let them lay claim to the promise Jesus gave us that “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciple”. I pray they would look to You and find that Your Joy is in them and that it would make them full. (John 15:1-17)

Wow, what a beautiful way to prepare for Easter, to pray so many specific prayers! As part of the Easter choir many years, we prayed that our singing would soften the hearts of the unsaved and comfort the hearts of hurting Christians as we celebrate the resurrection.
I love that Susan. Music is a beautiful way to prepare hearts to enter His throne room.
This is such a thorough and practical guide for praying for Easter and for souls to be saved. Thanks for detailing this and for all the scripture that you used. i am using some of your ideas for my own prayers for our Easter service.
That’s wonderful! Our Prayer team needed a guide a few years ago and this is what came of it. I pray it helps many feel more confident to pray!
Good to know that works too! I learn so much from you as well! Keep it up great post.
Nice to meet you, Ghulam. Glad the prayer guide was helpful!
Tiffany, What a great article on praying for Easter! You did an excellent job in presenting the material in a real format that people can understand. Thank you for blessing my life with these prayers. I recently wrote prayers for your husband, which will be published next month! It was a lot of work. I’m proud of you for sticking with this tough topic and writing some excellent prayers to go with it.
