3 Hidden Benefits of Prayer in a Christian Marriage

It took a devastating process for us to reclaim joy. God restored our relationship two weeks before finalizing our divorce.  I’ve learned many things since the restoration of my marriage, but the main thing that has helped us has been prayer. The benefit of Prayer is not always obvious so today I (Cynthia Cano) will shed some light on 3 of them.

The beauty of prayer!

As a result of having healthy prayer lives, we have been able to see God’s grace, mercy, and love in our relationship and family.  We have Joy in our Christian Marriage because of Prayer.

Do you need some encouragement to keep pressing into that Daily Commitment?   We could all use a community to help us in Reclaiming Hope & Joy in our marriages!

3 Hidden Benefits of Prayer in a Christian Marriage

Prayer Benefit #1: Unity in a Christian Marriage

Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. – Ephesians 4:3

Have you noticed the difference in your personal life when you have a strong prayer life versus when you don’t? I have too!

And the same goes for marriage.  I tell you this from personal experience. There was a time in my marriage that my husband and I barely prayed individually, let alone pray together and it showed!

We were so distant and couldn’t tolerate our differences. It wasn’t until after our separation and restoration that we started focusing on our prayer life. The little things didn’t matter anymore.  We made a habit to work together to resolve the issues that we had.  Today we enjoy a beautiful peace in our home.

There’s absolutely nothing better than having that unity in your marriage and in your home!

Prayer Benefit #2: Clarity in a Christian Marriage

Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. – 1 Corinthians 13:12

My husband doesn’t always get me and I don’t always get him. We have different ways of interacting and showing love.  Instead of seeking God to bring clarity, we were quick to judge and assume the other just didn’t care.

Prayer will help clarify those things you are unsure of in your marriage. Its super important to seek clarity.  When we don’t it causes issues internally that eventually turn into a bigger problem.

Prayer Benefit #3: Submission in a Christian Marriage

For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. – Ephesians 5:22

Now, before I stir up some sort of controversy, let me explain.

I’m not saying that with prayer, women need to allow husbands to dominate us.  What I am saying, is that praying with your spouse brings back a biblical foundation in marriage.

This key point actually pertains to both husbands and wives.

If we continue reading in Ephesians, chapter 5, the Bible goes on to say:

“For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church”

“For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her”.

God set a standard for both men and women in marriage; both genders have rules to follow.  When we Pray we align ourselves with God and His will and Submission is a Hidden Benefit of Prayer – more so when we pray together!

I’ve noticed (in my own marriage, actually) that women tend to be the more dominant one in the relationship. We are quick to take charge and get things done.   Which is good, but we can’t forget that our men need to lead our home.

I eventually sought God for understanding in what was troubling my marriage, and this was a big one.  When I submitted to my husbands’ authority as the man of the house, I noticed that his love for me started changing.   He respected me and in turn, I respected him more.

God intends for us to work together in our marriage but yet, we each have different roles to fulfill.  Prayer helped us get to that place!

Prayer isn’t the most fun thing to do with your spouse.  But it’s one of the most important things you can do for your Christian Marriage.

God wants us to come to him.  So why not take advantage of God’s listening ear?  If you can do it together it can reclaim Joy in a Christian Marriage.

If you can’t pray together, be sure to pray individually and intentionally over your Marriage.  God will honor your prayers!
