Are you having a hard time with the command to be still and know that I am God? Yes. Me too. Why is it so hard to Be Still? It would be easier if God would give me a to-do list, a chart of the right and wrong things or a schedule of approved Christian activities that please Him. Instead, God says Be Still, Do Not Fear and Abide in Me. Why can’t I just obey? You Too? Are you afraid? Do you answer back, “But God…” like I do? When something is just too hard for me to do I go back to prayer. Today we will see how to Pray to Overcome Fear; specifically the Fear of Being Still.
Did you find this mid-series? We are in a 40-day Fast to learn how to be still and know God. Go back here and read the intro and keep up with the series.

Be Still and do not fear because God is with you
Genesis 26:24 The Lord appeared to him the same night and said, “I am the God of Abraham your father; Do not be afraid, for I am with you. I will bless and favor you, and multiply your descendants, For the sake of My servant Abraham.”
God longs for a real, authentic relationship with you. He doesn’t want you to be religious or fall back on family religion. The Lover of your soul looks deep inside your heart and longs to see a love for Him there.
Do you know how to let God into your life? (And I mean God, not religion)
Religion seeks to be saved from Hell, pain, discomfort. But Faith is letting God into your life, allowing Him access to every part. God wants to bless you, deliver you from trouble, be with you through hard times. Will you let Him?
God is faithful in difficult situations even when we are not but He wants you to Trust Him and come to Him for your Help.
Be Still and do not fear because God saves you
Exodus 14:13 But Moses said to the people, “Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever.

Numbers 21:34 But the Lord said to Moses, “Do not fear him [Og the giant King of Bishon], for I have given him into your hand, and all his people and his land; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.”
Not only will God allow impossible situations into your life, at times He will let you face giants!
Do Not Be Afraid of the spiritual giants in your life! Stand in Faith knowing that God will fight for you. Through the battle, He will also mature you into a spiritual warrior!
The way to mature into that Spiritual Warrior is to learn to Be Still in the face of the giants of life! By giving the fear to God, and press into Him through the Battle, you will grow and conquer giants!
Be Still and do not fear because God fights for you
Deuteronomy 3:22 Do not fear them, for the Lord your God is the one fighting for you.’
God tells you to Be Still and do not fear when facing War. Spiritual Warfare is real and is happening in your life weather you are fighting back or not.
Spiritual Warfare is not a reason to fear but a reason to be still and know God more.
To be Still in times of intense hardship and spiritual warfare you must remember Three thing
- Past victories
- God’s Promises
- Faith over fear does not mean the absence of fear, but fighting in faith.
And the Reason we are back to this topic is that Prayer is a part of the armor of God and we need to put it on every day as we do battle in this spiritual war.
Be Still and do not fear because God is greater than your enemy
2 Kings 6:16 So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
It’s hard to choose hope in hard times. When we are faced with very real problems and few solutions it’s easier to get stuck in fear and anxiety.
Prayer changes everything. Prayer let’s us turn the tables on the enemy. When we pray we get a bigger view of God. Can praying help anxiety? Yes! The Benefits of prayer in times of anxiety or prayer for when you are worried can’t be overemphasized.

1 Chronicles 28:20 Then David said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and courageous, and act; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished.
Hard things happen in life (I know it personally) but just because life has been hard does not mean God failed. God’s idea of failure is just so different than our human idea that we have to believe God never lies. He Said, “I will never leave you or fail you.” That has to be the truth we live with rather than our emotion lead feelings.
I have failed God time and time again. Failure in life is not the end of the story! We learn from failure and overcome fear as we grow our faith in God!
Be Still and do not fear because The Lord is for you
Psalm 118:6 The Lord is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me?
God is on your side. Everyone else in your life might walk out on you, but God is right there rooting for you, holding you up, offering help in every season.
There really is a plan for your life. God has called you and equipped you for something if you are His child. Jesus Christ sits at the Fathers right-hand praying for you, defending you, forgiving you, waiting for you to come boldly before Him in need of help.
Trust Him.
Be Still and do not fear because The Lord is your strength and help
Isaiah 41:10-13 (NKJV) Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’
God is enough. Enough strength in hard times. God is always with you and you can count on His comfort and strength in every season of life.
What do you turn to for strength when times are hard?
When the bills are higher than your paycheck, when the marriage is harder than you imagined, when parenting requires more than you have to give…
Being strong is not about what you have in strength and courage. It is all about how strong God is.
It is tempting to trust the cultures way when times are hard. But Y’all, the culture has it wrong.
Listen, friend, God is strong! And God is for you, on your side! We don’t have to ask God be with you, He is with you! Trust Him in every season! Trust Him to be your strength and help!
Be Still and do not fear because The Lord Redeems you and calls you by name
Isaiah 43:1 But now, thus says the Lord, your Creator, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!
We are all slaves to sin. Your sin might look different than my sin but sin is sin in God’s eyes.
And If you are His, you can be redeemed. You see, God sent His son to pay the price to purchase, ransom, redeem you from that sin that holds you enslaved.
He paid the price to redeem us all!
And because you have been redeemed, you have also been called by name and claimed by the God of the Universe!
Because you are God’s He promises to help you, strengthen you and protect you in hard times!
Be Still and do not fear because The Lord will cover your shame
Isaiah 54:4 “Fear not, for you will not be put to shame; And do not feel humiliated, for you will not be disgraced; But you will forget the shame of your youth, And the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more.
I had real shame. Just like Israel, I had messed up so bad and there have been times I was sure God would give up on me. Can you relate?
But God is not a God who puts us to shame. Shame comes from the enemy. God covers you in redemption, calls you by a new name and never brings back up your forgiven past!
Give your guilt and shame to God today and be still the knowledge that God does not put you to shame. Let go of those feelings, deal with the sin that needs to be handled, then step into the freedom of a God who forgives.
Be Still and do not fear because The Lord adopts you
Romans 8:15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”
Your Heavenly Father is far superior to your earthly dad. Maybe like my dad, you’ve been hurt and let down, abandoned and neglected. God the Father would never do that. Or maybe you had an amazing relationship with your dad but he was still human and let you down from time to time.
God is perfect, loving and always there to help you!
Trusting God in the midst of uncertainty is hard but God is powerful, loving and faithful. You can Trust Him to love you like the perfect Father He is.
Be Still and do not fear because The Lord has done great things for you
Joel 2:21 Do not fear, O land, rejoice and be glad, For the Lord has done great things.
Are you in a spiritual drought? The difficulties and demands of life are depleting your spiritual bank account…
God is there with you. Take a moment to look back and rejoice in the great things God has done for you in the past. Remembering God’s faithfulness will help you keep your faith in the face of fear.

The 14th Promise you can claim to overcome fear and be still
2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.
That spirit that has you so afraid to be still, is not from God. Fear is not from God.
What does God say about Worry and fear?
When fear rears its head we can look back to 2 Timothy and know what God said. Fear is not from God.
What does God give to conquer Fear and anxiety? Power. Love. A Sound Mind or Discipline. This is an amazing Faith over fear scripture! Whenever you face fear or anxiety begin to pray 2 Timothy 1:7 as a prayer for strength!
How can I stop worrying about everything? Pray
We can go to Prayer for anxiety, worry and fear. In fact, I often pray, “Lord, please take away my anxiety.” We can seek deliverance through prayer from a spirit of fear. I even use prayer for healing anxiety attacks! So Let’s Pray today. The prayer is written to be prayed together in agreement over the next woman reading it. Take a moment to pray through it for you and her by changing out the pronouns.
A Prayer for you to Be Still, Overcome Fear and Abide in Christ Share on XA Prayer for you to Be Still, Overcome Fear and Abide in Christ
Lord, we come before you to pray over this Precious Child of Yours today. Be Still and know that I Am God, You say. Abide in Me without fear, You say. But Father, life is hard and daily presents circumstances that spit in the face of stillness and abiding. So we Interceed on their behalf today.
Hard things happen every day. Remind them that you are the God who sees and you are the God who hears Your children (Genesis 21:17).
When religion seems easier than an authentic relationship with You, Lord, give them the courage to believe that You are the God who is with us (Genesis 26:24).
Hard, no impossible situations, come into our lives without warning and fear is easy. Help them Trust that You are the God who saves and fights for us (Exodus 14:13).
Some days the difficult situations in our lives feel like giants. It is terrifying to stand in faith and believe that You will fight the giants in our lives, God. But we stand in agreement concerning the giant they are facing and believe that YOu will fight for them, conquer that giant and grow them into Spiritual Warriors through the process (Numbers 21:34).
Father, You say to not be afraid in the battle but fear is easier than faith most days. Remind this sweet child of Yours of all the past victories. Help them sit in your Promises and in faith push through the fear through prayer (Deuteronomy 3:22).
Holy Spirit, when it feels too hard to choose hope in hard times, open their eyes to see that the armies of God are far greater than the enemy they face. Remind them that God is bigger than the problem in front of them so they can stand strong (2 Kings 6:16).
Father, You tells us over and over again that You will never fail us. Today we stand together to rebuke the lies of the devil they have believed that say You have failed them or they have failed You too many times. Give them trust in the truth of who You are (Psalm 118:6).
God, You are enough, enough strength when times are hard, enough help when life is overwhelming. Enough. Give them eyes to see and ears to hear as you hold them up with your righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10-13).
We all fall short and we all struggle with sin. Today we praise You for being the God who redeems us. You forgive our sin and past and call us by name. Wrap them in Your loving arms to feel that love, the love that comes from an intimate Savior who knows and speaks our name (Isaiah 43:1).
This very moment we pray for the end of the shame that comes when the enemy reminds them of that forgiven sin. Show them the difference from holy guilt that leads to confession and repentance and shame that will keep them stuck in their walk. Thank You for being the God who covers our shame (Isaiah 54:4).
Thank You, Lord, that not only do you redeem them, cover their shame, call them by name but you have given them Your name by adopting them into Your family (Romans 8:15).
Whatever situations life holds today or tomorrow, remind them of all the great things You have done for them, Father (Joel 2:21). Give them a spirit that longs to rejoice in You because that will help them overcome fear, anxiety and worry anytime they come calling.
And we Praise You Jesus for the Promise that You will not, have not and will never give us a spirit of Fear. Instead, You equip us with Power, Love, and Discipline to overcome fear and walk in faith and freedom for the Kingdom of God.
To You alone be all the glory and power both now and forever Amen!
